At Results Rehab P.A., our Speech Therapy team provides services for adults of all ages including the geriatric population. Our team of Licensed Speech Therapists is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of any speech and language disorders including swallowing disorders as a result from illness, aging or disability.

Speech Therapy (ST) focuses on receptive language to understand words spoken to you, and expressive language, the ability to use words to express yourself. In addition Speech Therapy offers treatment to many speech/language disorders.

Speech Language Pathologists or Speech Therapists are expert in evaluation and treatment of a variety of communication, comprehension, oral motor and swallowing deficits. Speech therapy evaluations should be considered to address issues with communication and swallowing in the home.

The following are Functional Communication Measures that describe the depth of Speech Therapy evaluation and interventions:

  • Alaryngeal Communication: total or near-total laryngectomy training
  • Attention: single, multi-step, divided types of attention deficits
  • Augmentative-Alternative Communication: enhanced or replaced natural speech with aids such as alphabet boards, gestures, blinks or electronic aids
  • Fluency: deficits of the rate or meter of speech
  • Memory: use of external memory aids and strategies
  • Motor Speech: deficits of speech due to respiration, phonation, articulation and resonance
  • Pragmatics: deficits of situation context with speech, understanding the appropriate social communication
  • Problem solving: deficits identifying problem, generating appropriate solutions and outcome in a timely manner
  • Reading: deficits with reading single letters, common words, complex sentences and paragraph level to gain information
  • Spoken Language Comprehension: deficits with their own speech expression
  • Swallowing: deficits including oral and pharyngeal phase of swallowing
  • Voice: deficits of vocal quality, vocal cords
  • Voice Following Tracheostomy: deficits of vocal quality following trach
  • Writing: deficits of writing for communication
